The day has come: it’s time to eat your skin routine. Well, sort of.
As far as we can tell, the truest route to glowing, radiant skin is from the inside out. We aren’t really on board with the whole “ageless” skin approach because we think growing older is a privilege and doing it with youthful energy and vitality is an absolute joy. That being said, we love that a healthy diet can help our skin by supporting our body’s ability to naturally produce collagen, replace skin cells, and reduce the signs of skin damage.
So what’s the trick? Not much! Just whole, healthy foods (minimally processed and not much refined sugar), plenty of sleep, and doing your best to keep stress down. Now, there are several foods that can help uplevel your skin game.
Healthy Fats: We’re talking Omega 3, 6 and 9 here. These omegas, plus the naturally dark pigmentation of Açaí (cue antioxidants), is one of the best skin helpers out there. Omegas help your skin appear hydrated, supple, and healthy. They also help to fight inflammation, minimizing redness in the skin and helping with autoimmune skin conditions.
Vitamin E: Foods with Vitamin E help protect against skin damage, free radicals, and inflammation.
Vitamin C: Probably one of the best ways to promote collagen production in the body, Vitamin C is your skin’s friend for ensuring strong, healthy, moisture, smooth skin.
Vitamin A: Vitamin A, or beta-carotene to make it easy, helps to act as a natural sun-block for your skin. It helps to prevent cell death, and dry, wrinkly skin.
Antioxidants: Antioxidants help to fight free-radicals in the body. You can find them in Açaí, chocolate, berries, and even green tea.
In this recipe, we leaned hard on Açaí for its antioxidants and omegas, but also wanted to give it a little support with a few additional ingredients. We used Açai for healthy omegas and antioxidants, coconut water for hydration, carrots for beta-carotene and Vitamin A, papaya for its skin soothing enzymes and collagen-boosting Vitamin C, and turmeric to fight inflammation. Here's the recipe:
